About Emperix
Emperix is a research data exchange for data that carries obligations.
It exists because of a gap that anyone who has tried to share restricted data already knows about. Open repositories are excellent and free, and if data can be open it should go in one. But a great deal of research data cannot be open: it was collected under consent that limits reuse, it identifies people, or it belongs partly to someone else. That data still gets shared — as email attachments, under agreements filed somewhere nobody can find, with no record of who received what.
Emperix replaces that with something a research office can actually point at. Depositors set the terms, approve each request themselves, and can withdraw access afterwards. Every application, decision and withdrawal is recorded, and the record cannot be edited by anyone, including us.
Where we are
Emperix is new. The platform is built and running, and we would rather say exactly what that means than imply more.
Working today: controlled access by application, time-limited grants, withdrawal that reaches the file itself, structured governance on every dataset, data use agreements recorded against each access, an automated privacy screen at upload, provenance for derived data, versioning, and machine-readable metadata for discovery.
Not yet: DOIs, payments, and signing in with ORCID. Each needs an external registration or agreement we have not completed. We will say when they arrive rather than describing them early.
The exchange is also new enough to be small. We are not going to dress that up with numbers.
Who is behind it
Emperix is built and operated from Malaysia, by a small team working with researchers in the region. We can be reached directly — there is no support queue between you and the people who built this.
